Description of Program
- What do we do at tutoring?
Each session is an hour long, with 15 minutes for snack. During that hour, the student will work with their designated tutor on homework or any other academic subject they need additional support in. For those days when the child does not have any assignments, there are plenty of resources available at our sites to still have a meaningful session. - Who is eligible for the program?
York students, grades 1-6. - When is tutoring?
Mondays or Tuesdays, whichever works best for you. Sessions begin at 7 and finish at 8:15. There is a snack provided at the end.
The program runs from mid-September through the end of April. - Where is tutoring?
Mondays are located at Christ Lutheran Church (29 S. George St., York). The rear entrance is located off of S. Court Ave. Heading east on E. King St., this will be your first available left after crossing over S. George St.
Tuesdays are located Union Evangelical Lutheran Church (408 W. Market St., York). The rear entrance is located off of W. Mason Alley. Heading south on S. Penn St., this will be your first available right after crossing over W. Market St.
Both locations have off street parking, well lit lots, and a designated doorman. - Who are our tutors?
Volunteers from the York area. They are mostly from local Lutheran congregations, but this is not a requirement. Adults must complete 2-3 background checks (Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Pennsylvania State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting). We do have some volunteers that are still in high school and middle school. - How do I sign up?
Please visit the designated pages for "Students" and "Tutors."
